Sports Awards

In 2010, the Lifesaving Society Canada sport commission announced the creation of new national awards to recognize extraordinary achievements in our sport.

The National Team selection committee has been appointed to select the nominees and winners of the awards for outstanding performance by athletes.

The following awards are presented in recognition of outstanding performances by a Canadian athlete during the previous calendar year on a national or international stage. Outstanding performance at the provincial level may also be taken into consideration by the selection committee. The awards recognize achievement in pool, surf and beach events. These individual categories are:

  • Male athlete of the year
  • Female athlete of the year
  • Youth male athlete of the year – For men aged 15 to 18 years old
  • Youth female athlete of the year – For women aged 15 to 18 years old
  • Masters male athlete – For men competing in the Masters category
  • Masters female athlete – For women competing in the Masters category
  • Performance – Awarded to the individual (or team) whose performance in a specific event raised the international profile of Canadian lifesaving sport.

Nominations for the annual awards are sought in the late-winter / early spring via a call issued by the sport commission. Recipients are announced at the closing banquet of the annual Canadian Pool Lifesaving Championships. Past recipients:
